Taylor Municipal B~lding 215 Crumb Avenue Ro~oke, VA 24011 Dear Mayor Smith mad Members of Cotmcil: I mn writing you on behalf of the leadership of Downtown Roanoke Incorporated to voice our support for a new multi - dimensional sports and entertainment facility located in the area now occupied by the aging Victory Stadium. It is clear to the DRI leadership that any decision to build such a multi - dimensional facility should be based on sound plmming and research. Once made, the decision should be implemented as quickly as possible. Even though the proposed location for this new thcility is outs/de of the borders of the current downtown special service district, we see this as an important project for the downtown area as well as the rest of the City and the region. A new multi - dimensional complex is likely to draw large munbers of visitors to the heart of our city to events that would not even consider coming to Roanoke otherwise_ The proposed facility will also provide the first class sports thcility the children in our city deserve and help attract and retain the young workers and families that are critically importmat to the future health and vitality of our city. Thm~k you for the opportunity to comment on this matter mad for all you do to benefit the citizens of Roanoke. With best regards, R. atthew K~ President Cc: Maryellen Goodlatte, DRI Chair Darlene Burcham, City Manager DOWNTOWN ROANOKE INCORPORATED 310 FIRST STREET, S.W. · ROANOKE.
